Harwell Village 1-3 Lambourn
Starting Line up: Clough, Dart, Westall, K Willmoth, Pleass, Livings, Griffin, C Willmoth, A Hendren, Davis & A Mooney. Subs: Goodey, Joyce, M Hendren, Connor's & Rowbottom.
Lambourn went in search of the league title at Harwell but with Harwell's recent form seeing them take half there season's points total in there last 4 games this was a tough fixture.
The game started that way for Lambourn as well, Harwell taking control very early. A quick passing move followed by a mazy run from the Harwell right winger allowed him to pick out a pin point cross that was headed home powerfully by Gareth Fenton. Lambourn were struggling to get to grips with Harwell & seemed to be playing into their hands, Long ball after long ball were being won with ease by a strong Harwell back 4. Harwell looked like they would extend there lead except for some sharp goal keeping by Clough & some solid defending by Westall & K Willmoth. Another mazy run by the tricky right winger took him past two challenges before Griffin hit him with a hard but fair sliding challenge. The winger didnt last much longer & was taken off much to the relief of right back Pleass.
Lambourn were starting to get their football going Griffin & C Willmoth finally getting some ball on the floor and they started to make things happen. It was A Hendren who would provide the pass that finally got Lambourn going. A driven cross to the back post was met by the on rushing Davis to finish from close range.
This was the boost Lambourn needed and they now started to show why they were looking to complete the double. Mooney & Davis starting to come into the game and this allowed Lambourn much more possession. They were moving the ball well on a decent pitch but couldn't break down a resolute Harwell back line.
As the half time whistle was approaching Westall hit a 50 yard diagonal ball into the path of Livings who carried the ball into the box dropped a shoulder and hit a left footed strike low to the keepers right, The keeper got a hand to the strike but was unable to keep it out.
Lambourn 2-1 up at half time and the title was within touching distance & with news coming in that Saxton were beating Didcot it looked all but over.
Lambourn started the second half with a real purpose & it wasn't long before top scorer Livings smashed home his 20th goal of the season. Dart crossed into the box and a poor header from the centre half meant the ball bounced on the edge of the box, Livings struck a half volley that curled away from the keeper and into the net. Lambourn celebrated like they knew the job was done and a season's hard work was had come to fruition. With Westall, Willmoth, Dart and Pleass now looking in total control at the back & the midfield 4 looking good in possession Lambourn controlled possession for long spells frustrating Harwell who started to rack up the fouls. The ref doing well to allow Harwell to keep 11 on the pitch. Lambourn made changes with Goodey replacing A Hendren, Joyce for Davis & M Hendren for Dart. This did not change Lambourn's grip on the game and they played out the final moments of a fantastic season as they had spent most of it, In total control. The party started as Club Captain Mooney lifted the trophy & carried on long into the night as the boys from the Valley enjoyed a double winning campaign.

The club are now waiting on a verdict on their promotion bid.

Lambourn 3 - 0 Didcot.
On a beautiful spring evening in front of over 250 spectators at The Northcott ground in Abingdon Lambourn Sports lifted the Charity Shield with a surprisingly straightforward victory over close rivals Didcot Casuals.
Both sides started the match with gusto which failed to materialise into any serious meaningful attacks until just before the 10th minute when Daren Jones received the ball just inside the box and flicked it on to his Lambourn team-mate Ben Matthews to fire past the keeper from close range. A minute later the favour was almost returned as Matthews played a great ball into the path of Jones who had the ball brilliantly taken away from his foot by Neil Tonner just as he was about to strike.
Didcot did create chances following going behind but never really tested Kyle Clough in the Lambourn goal and when their talisman Paul Powell came off on 34 minutes with a recurrent groin injury the signs were ominous that it was not going to be their day.
The score remained 1-0 to Lambourn at half time and the first 25 minutes of the second half produced a series of half chances for both sides. Didcot began to get back in the game and Fletcher Hoey produced the best move of the match on 67 minutes when he collected the ball just inside the Lambourn half and went off on a surging run, past three strong tackles, to lay the ball off to Laurence Hoey on the right. Laurence Hoey fired first time but his powerful shot was well saved by Clough.
Perhaps sensing Didcot were beginning to look like they would equalise Lambourn made a change bringing off Alex Hendren, who had had a good game, and replacing him with Tommy Langfrey. Whatever the reason for the change it was an inspired move as with his first involvement in the match Langfrey doubled Lambourn’s lead as, following a one-two with Matthews, he calmly side-footed past Gary Clarke in the Didcot goal.
Following the second goal it was Lambourn who looked more likely to score again. Gary Clarke pulled off an excellent one handed save to deny Dave Livings on 77 minutes and made another fine save from Paul Davis on 85 minutes, but he could do nothing about Dave Livings’ shot in the final minute which was fired with purpose into the top right hand corner of the net to seal the victory. Their captain Mark Bone received the Charity Shield from long time NBFL administrator Andy Wells and the celebrations began in earnest.

Lambourn 1 - 1 Saxton

Title Clash Peters Out After Feisty Start
With two players sent off after five minutes this North Berks League Division One title clash between Lambourn Sports and Saxton Rovers was in danger of resembling a wrestling match than a football match.
The scene was set for a perfect game of football between two of the best sides in the League with the pitch in excellent condition, although the one o’clock kick off meant that the match was played in extremely hot conditions. And it seemed as if the heat had got to the players from the off. Almost from the first move of the match two opposing players faced up to each other and the referee decided a good talking to was a better option than showing cards so early in the match. However, the lesson wasn’t learned and following a Lambourn free kick into the box, Ben Matthews and Tom Aldworth were more intent on wrestling each other to the ground than trying to get to the ball. The referee had no option but to send them both off.
Following another booking for a reckless tackle on 10 minutes temperatures seemed to die down and both teams began to focus on their football, although it was more like ‘sky’ ball as both sides, Lambourn in particular, seemed intent on punting the ball upfield in the forlorn hope of the forwards latching onto something, as opposed to building up from the back. This was the main tactic throughout the match despite the best chances and the goals coming from when both sides decided to play football.
Saxton created the first meaningful attack on 11 minutes, but excellent work by Kyle Clough in the Lambourn goal pushed Danny Parry wide when clean through and his eventual cross was fired wide by Garry Hartley. Lambourn then had a five minute spell in the middle of the half that ended up with them taking the lead. On 20 minutes John Dart delivered a searching deep cross that just eluded the outstretched Alex Hendren. Soon after Hendren had another opportunity when Dave Livings’ shot was deflected into his path, but he fired across the face of goal and wide of the mark. A minute later, though, Hendren collected the ball deep on the left hand side of the pitch. He cut inside and slipped the ball into the box where Kirk Willmoth ran in front of the defence to flick the ball past the keeper.
Both sides reverted to the long ball after the goal and at best created half chances or weak efforts that were easily gathered by their respective keepers. However, Lambourn came close to extending their lead in the last minute as Andy Westall looped a header goalwards only to see Darren Spayes touch it over for a corner. The game went into stoppage time allowed for dealing with the brawls in the first five minutes and Saxton made the most of the opportunity to equalise with the last kick of the half. Dane Pask chased a ball deep into the left hand corner and passed it back to Ben Sutton who crossed it first time to Kyle Aldworth on the edge of the box. Aldworth cut back inside and at the second attempt fired the ball low and hard into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
With both sides a man down and with no escape from the blazing sun it was no surprise that the second half failed to come to life as both sets of players slowed the pace down. Neither side created much in the way of opportunities in the whole half until the final seconds of injury time when both could theoretically have nicked it. Saxton’s Frank Haines battled for the ball down the right wing and cut inside firing a low angled shot that Clough could only parry right into the path of Danny Parry, but the Saxton striker failed to maintain any composure and blasted the ball wildly wide of goal. Moments later Willmoth delivered a deep cross for Lambourn to the far post where Westall climbed superbly to head the ball back across the face of goal to Paul Davis who volleyed from 15 yards just over the bar.
The game ended soon after with the points shared, a point Saxton will be happier about than Lambourn as it keeps the race for the title alive.

Lambourn 2 - 1 Didcot
Starting Line Up: Clough, Dart, K Willmoth, Bone, Pleass, Livings, C Willmoth, Griffin, Hendren, Jones & Matthews. Subs Joyce, Langfrey Temple & Mcnally.
With Injuries to club captain Adrian Mooney ( Foot ) & midfield general Chris Prior (shin gash) that looks to have ruled the pair out for the season the management team have managed to secure the services of Newbury Town duo Callum Willmoth & Darren Jones for the remainder of the season.
Didcot arrived at Bockhampton Road with there eyes on the title after they lost out to Chalfont wasps in the Berks and Bucks Int cup final & suffered a shock defeat in the North Berks Cup semi final to Div 4 leaders Berinsfield. It now seems Lambourn could leave them without a trophy in a season that had seen them chasing a quadruple only 3 weeks ago.
The game started with a few nervous moments as both sides knew the importance of victory but it was the home side that started to play the football and soon settled into there passing game. Matthew's & Jones showing some good hold up and play and great strength against a aggressive Didcot back line. It seemed only a matter of time before they opened the scoring. A through ball from Jones released powerful winger Living's his first time strike from a tight angle was cleared off the line as Didcot were struggling to stay with Lambourn's one touch passing. With Bone superbly marshalling a back four that never looked troubled despite having to endure some rough house tactics from a power house Didcot number 10 that on anther day could of seem him receive 2 red cards for his use of the elbow on Pleass in the opening 20 minutes.
With the half hour approaching Lambourn really started to turn up the pressure, Griffin snapping into tackles giving C Willmoth the time and space to pick his passes. The two were both involved in the opening goal as some fine one touch slick passing unlocked the Didcot back line, As C Willmoth burst through a clumsy last ditch tackle from behind sent the energetic midfielder crashing to the turf in the box a certain penalty. The ref took a few seconds to decide but in the end made the correct call and pointed to the spot. Up stepped penalty king Griffin with 5 out of 6 pens already converted this season he looked confident even with the massive pressure. A well struck penalty sending the keeper the wrong way gave Lambourn the lead they craved & that there play had deserved. Lambourn continued to control the football keeping possession for long spells and frustrating a normally dominant Didcot side. Didcot did create one chance before the break but Clough shut the angle to the on rushing striker and smothered the ball at his feet before he had the chance to get a strike away.
Some harsh words were heard coming from the Didcot management at half time but Lambourn could be happy with there work so far & the management would of been looking for more of the same. They did make a change at half time as they withdrew M Hendren not one of his better performances and replaced him with speedy winger Langfrey.
Didcot came out for the second half even more aggressive than in the first but with a much more direct approach. They were now hitting long balls and trying to release the pace they had up front but with Lambourn back four in fine form this tactic didn't seem to overly trouble them either. With Lambourn needing to move the ball qucker as Didcot worked hard to press them in possession. Griffin, livings, Langfrey and C Willmoth all very sharp on the ball to resist the pressure being put on them. Lambourn looked like they would extend there lead, Matthew's going close with a half volley & K Willmoth striking just wide. On the hour mark a moment arrived that was good enough to win any game. Striker Jones picked up the ball some 35 yards from goal he ghosted past two tackles before striking the ball from 25 yards straight into the top right hand corner. The keeper didn't have the chance to move before the ball had hit the net. Wild celebrations followed as the striker found himself buried underneath a pile of Lambourn bodies.Lambourn were now flying forward and after a foul on Jones C Willmoth delivered a pinpoint cross to the back post Livings arrived and seemed certain to score only to miss a header from only a yard out. Matthew's was replaced by Joyce & the centre forward was given a chance with almost his first touch, Livings going past the full back and driving the ball across the six yard box, Joyce seemed certain to score but mistimed his strike and produce an air strike. A chance that came to soon after coming off the bench the only reason to explain the miss.
This was the wake up call Didcot needed and they turned the game on it's head for the last 15 minutes. The direct approach now seeming to push Lambourn back. Didcot kept loading balls into the box and after a clearing header went for a corner Didcot grabbed a lifeline. A short corner was then delivered to the back post and vollyed powerfully home from 8 yards. For the closing 10 minutes Didcot piled on the pressure crosses were coming from all angles and Clough and the back four had to stand firm winning header after header. Some fantastic defending that shows that not only can they play the free flowing football they can handle the ugly side of the game when required against a powerful side that have claimed the scalps of several higher league sides in the Berks & Bucks this season.
A real test of the sides character that they managed to come through proving they have the mental toughness to maitain the title push a secure promotion to the Hellenic league.

Kinbury 0 - 3 Lambourn

Lambourn arrived at Kintbury top of the league and with two victories already this season they were full of confidence. The pitch at first glance looked a nice surface however on closer inspection it appears still to be a very bobbly surface that is in urgent need of attention.
The game started with Kintbury looking to play very direct as they did in the last game. With Club Vice Captain Bone missing from the back four Lambourn were not as commanding as in recent weeks & this turned the game into a battle in the early stages. Lambourn looking the more likely of the two sides to open the scoring but were struggling to play there football in the final 3rd.
The first real chance fell to the home side some quick passing & good movement caught the back floor sleeping, The Kintbury striker flicked the ball over the on rushing Clough it seemed goal bound until it hit a bobble and bounced wide. This was the kick start Lambourn needed and for the finally 15 minutes of the half they took control. A silky run from Prior took him past 3 players and left him one on one with the Kintbury keeper the run was spoiled by a weak finish from the midfielder. Lambourn kept going at Kintbury and not long before half time they broke the dead lock. A nice passing move and a delightful final ball from Matthew's released the League's top goal scorer Livings he showed good strength to hold off the defender before flicking the ball over Kintbury's cumbersome keeper.
Half time arrived and some harsh words from the management raised Lambourn for the battle in the second half . They came out looking a more determined side without the ball and much more composed when in possession. Lambourn were still struggling to find that final ball so the management looked to the bench to change things replacing M Hendren with Dart. Dart going in at right back pushing Griffin back to his favoured centre midfield role. The little pitbull like midfilder soon started flying into tackles and pushed Kintbury onto the back foot. The second goal arrived soon after the change Lambourn movin the ball around well before freeing Prior on the right, A pinpoint cross was headed home from 8 yards by energetic striker Joyce.
The management decided more changes were needed and welcomed back club captain Mooney after 8 weeks out injured, He replaced Matthews and Connors replaced Goodey.
Mooney Looked like he had never been away showing some good touches and great vision & it was the skipper who set up the final goal. A pinpoint cross field pass dropped to Pleass who squared the ball for the on rushing Prior to finish from close range.
Connors was showing some great touches and just as he is now pushing for a starting place the young forward starts a 3 game ban.
Lambourn now in total control moving the ball and keeping it for long periods as they played down the clock. Kintbury looked a beaten side & Lambourn enjoyed keeing the ball to see out a 3rd win over there local rivals.
With Saxton dropping points at Harwell the top spot they crave edges closer.

Lambourn 3-1 Faringdon
Faringdon kicked off with the sun in their faces, though this disadvantage did not stop them taking control of the game from the start. Five minutes into the game, after a mess up in the Lambourn defence, the keeper made a fine save from Adam Sly. Two minutes later Robbie Harrington put a fine cross over to Darren Harrington who headed wide. Ten minutes into the game a Faringdon free kick from deep in their own half put Adam Sly through with the Lambourn keeper making another save. This is how the first half carried on with lots of chances going to waste.
Lambourn come out strong in the second half and scored after five minutes through Dave Livings. Two minutes later Chris Pryor added another goal. Livings failed to make it three after the keeper scrambled onto the ball to deny him. Faringdon carried on the second half as they finished the first, squandering chance after chance.
Twenty minutes into the second half Dave Livings hooked a ball past the keeper in the top corner of the goal. Finally, deep into injury time sub Jason Evans hit a superb 20 yard shot for Faringdon to make the final result 3-1 to Lambourn.
Lambourn come out strong in the second half and scored after five minutes through Dave Livings. Two minutes later Chris Pryor added another goal. Lambourn 6 - 1 Kintbury
Staring Line up: Leno, Dart, Rocky Rowbottom, Bone, Pleass, Griffin, Prior, M Hendren, Goodey, Jones & Joyce. Subs: Maye, Temple, Crayton & Livings.
With most fixtures off this weekend due to heavy rain it's a testament to the Lambourn pitch & ground staff that the fixture went ahead. The pitch looked good until heavy rain struck just before KO making the pitch very heavy under foot.
This made it difficult for Lambourn to play the passing game that has been a feature of their play this season. The game was a battle in the opening exchanges Goodey going close with a header after some good work down the right from Griffin. It was Kintbury who opened the scoring after 15 minutes when a deep cross was missed by Rowbottom leaving the Kintbury centre forward with the simple task of finishing from close range. Lambourn won a corner from there very next attack and a great delivery from Goodey allowed Rowbottom the chance to atone for his earlier mistake rising at the back post and heading home, A powerful finish from the centre half. Lambourn were playing into a strong headwind and this was making it difficult for them to keep up any sustained pressure. Jones & Joyce looked lively up front & it was Jones who after some great individual skill struck the cross bar from 30 yards with the keeper well beaten. M Hendren was trying to fill the void left in centre midfield by the departed Fisher & the young utility player may of finally found his best position after this performance, Some clever passing and crunching tackles made sure he and Prior took control of the midfield battle. Bone outstanding at the back again, He marshalled the back four with an authority that showed the management were right to give him the armband while club captain Mooney struggles to recover from his foor injury.
Lambourn went in at the break level but much the happier side.
The second half started with Lambourn in total control and on 50 minutes they took a deserved lead, Another good delivery from Goodey was volleyed home by Pleass from close range. Kintbury were struggling to get out of there half into the strong wind and it wasn't long before prolific striker Joyce made it 3. Some one touch football gave the ball to Jones he skiped away from his man before rolling the ball into Joyce a good touch and powerful strike that took a slight deflection leaving the Kintbury keeper wrong footed. Wild celebrations followed the strike showing how appreciated the hard working striker is by his team mates. Stan James have got the striker at even money to score the winner in this weekend's semi final.
Lambourn were now really enjoying their football & it wasn't long before they made it 4, Jones scoring the best goal of the game. The striker beating 4 Kintbury players before smashing an unstoppable strike past the keeper from 20 yards.
Kintbury were now looking a tired side and with the Lambourn midfield forcing them to chase the ball it looked as if more goals would follow. Young strker Maye replaced Joyce and showed some good touches in his 3rd game, He was unlucky when a left footed strike from a narrow angle forced the Kintbury keeper into a good low save. On 80 minutes winger Griffin showed great feet and good pace as he drove past a tired Kintury left back, As he prepared to shoot a clumsy challenge came in from behind leaving the ref pointing to the spot. Grffin picked himsef up and took the kick slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner. More changes followed midfielder Crayton being rewared for his good form with the res replacing Goodey & Temple for Dart.
Lambourn would score once more before the end and it was Crayton who crashed the ball home from close range after the Kintbury back 4 failed to deal with a ball into the box.
Lambourn beat Kintbury for a second time this season & push themselves 3 points clear at the top of the league.

Harwell Int 0 - 3 Lambourn Sports

The Management duo of Clarke & Mcnally decided to start both Bone & M Hendren after the pair returned from injury this week. Lambourn started the game well with Bone bring a security & confidence into the back four that allowed them to look in total for most of the game.
A centre back partnership of Rowbottom and Bone looks solid and the management were happy to see the two complement each others play. The passing game that the management crave was on display today allowing Lambourn total control of the football for long spells in the game.
Langfrey & A Hendren were combining well on the right & it was after a slick one two between the pair that left Langfrey with the space to pick out a pinpoint cross for in form striker Connors to head home his 3rd goal in 3 games. Joyce was having his best game in a Lambourn shirt to date, The hard working striker showed some fantastic touches, powerful hold up play & was unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet.
Prior seems to be playing himself back into form in his preferred centre midfield role & Fisher was outstanding in his last apperance for the club. The skillful Midfielder is moving to the USA & everyone at the club would like to wish him well in the future.
The sides went in at half time with the score only 1-0 but Lambourn deserved to be further in front.
The second half started out in the same manner & Lambourn soon added to the opening goal, Langfrey playing the ball across the box & a clever stepover from Connors allowed M Hendren to smash the ball home from 12 yards. Lambourn's passing game was a pleasure on the eye & the 3rd goal was a real team goal. The entire Lambourn team had a touch of the ball before working it to Connor's who pulled it back for A Hendren to slot home well. The away side now had the game in the bag & made 3 changes Griffin, Goodey & Maye replacing A Hendren, M Hendren & Joyce. The changes allowed Harwell to have some more of the play and they forced Leno into a good save before the end. Lambourn had controlled the game well & they look ready for the tough fixtures ahead.
The league and cup double the target as the club look for promotion this season.

Ardington 1-2 Lambourn after extra time
At no point in this match was it possible to distinguish which was the side challenging for the Division One Championship and which was the side residing in Division Three. And it wasn’t until Ardington went down to 10 men, following an altercation between substitute Rob Joyce and a Lambourn off-pitch substitute, that the First Division side were able to turn the match around. And even then there was nothing to differentiate between the two sides in terms of performance.
Lambourn played with the breeze to their backs in the first half and created the first meaningful opening on 13 minutes when Frazer Joyce beat the Ardington offside trap, but blasted the ball over the corner of bar and post. Two minutes later Josh Cottrell should have put Ardington ahead, but this was the first of two or three occasions when he didn’t find his shooting boots. Wayne Hogan played a great ball out wide to Jonathan Eudell, who jinked past the defence to play the ball to the unmarked Cottrell at the far post, but he took too long to control the ball and his shot was blocked at source.
Andrew Burt in the Ardington goal then made two saves in two minutes, the first an easy collect from a tame shot by Sam Connors, and the second an outstanding dive and stretch to tip over a curling 20 yard shot from Liam Griffith, probably the best save anyone will see this season. Ardington then upped the pressure on Lambourn and with just over 10 minutes of the half remaining they took a deserved lead. Debutant Patrick Howe picked up a loose ball on the left hand side and pushed it through a gap between the full back and the centre back, then rode a lunging tackle from another defender before slotting the ball past the onrushing Dave Leno in the Lambourn goal to score.
Lambourn almost equalised within two minutes when Rocky Rowbottom gathered the ball on the edge of the ‘D’ and, whilst sliding, poked the ball towards the goal only to see it rebound harmlessly off the left hand post. The second half continued in the same vein as the first with both sides equally matched, although there was not a lot in terms of goalmouth action for the first 30 minutes of the half. He pushed the ball to the right and fired a low powerful shot past the outstretched hand of Burt. The delight and relief on Lambourn players both on and off the pitch was clear to see.

New Signings!
First team manager Rob Clarke has moved quickly to sign two new faces after the clubs recent spate of injuries. Young striker Patrick Maye has been joined by former Wroughton ulility man Stuart Temple.

Players injured!
Bad news has hit both squads ahead of this weekend's fixture's with Livings(Broken rib) A Mooney (Bruised foot) M Hendren (Groin) joining Matthews, Bone, Harkness & M Annetts on the treatment table. With a few other players not available for different reasons the first team management are looking to bring in a couple of new faces before Saturday. More details to follow soon.

Drayton 1-4 Lambourn
Startin line up: Annetts, Griffin, Rowbottom, A Hendren, Pleass, Goodey, Livings, Fisher, Langfrey,A Mooney, Joyce. Subs: Connors, M Hendren & Prior.
Lambourn made the trip to Drayton looking to keep the pressure on Saxton & Wootton at the top of the table as they hunt promotion to the Hellenic League. With Wootton playing Saxton on the same day 3 points were vital for the boys from the valley. Lambourn were playng into a strong wind in the opening half and this might of contributed to the slow start they made. Struggling to put the passes together on a bobbly pitch made the opening 15 minutes very scrappy. Lambourn finally started to get going and it was the away side who created the opening chance a clever pass from Mooney released Joyce but not for the first time this season the hard working striker failed to find the target. His work rate must soon start to be rewarded with goals. This sparked Lambourn into life & they started to move the ball much quicker. Fisher and Livings took control of the midfield battle and this allowed Langfrey & Goodey the space and freedom to attack the Drayton back line. Goodey went passed the Drayton right back with ease to create the opening goal, A driven low cross was struck first time by the on rushing Fisher from 8 yards into the bottom corner. Lambourn were two up seconds later as Joyce stole the ball straight from the kick off Mooney took up possession and a clever chip and well timed run allowed Livings the time and space in the box to slot home.
Lambourn were now looking a threat with every attack & it wasn't long before they increased the lead. Langfrey's deep cross was picked up on the left by top scorer Mooney and the gifted striker spotted the keeper off his line and scored his 11th goal of the season with a clever chip. Annetts in goal seemed like his biggest problem was keeping his cigar lit in the gale force head wind. Lambourn went in at half time
3-0 up and with the wind behind them in the second half it look like the job was almost done.
The second half started much the same as the first as Lambourn took their foot off the pedal and allowed Drayton to get some more possession without really troubling a back four being well marshalled by Rowbottom. However it was Drayton who would strike next as a neat passing move allowed the Drayton striker the space to hit an unstoppable strike past the diving Annetts. Lambourn were still not passing the ball as they did in the first half so the management decided to ring the changes. Connor's, M Hendren & Prior replaced Livings, Mooney & Griffin for the fianl half hour. It was Connor's who took the chance to shine the brighest of the replacements some great touches and non stop work rate were capped off with a fine solo goal, Collecting the ball on the left he twisted and turned away from 3 Drayton defenders before hitting a great strike. The young striker showing the first team management that he can make the step up from the res this season. The game was over as a contest & the final minutes played out that way. With the news that Saxton had taken away Wootton's unbeaten record the 3 points have made the title race now wide open.

The first team travel to Ardington in the cup this weekend looking for a place in the semi's.
Lambourn made the trip to Drayton looking to keep the pressure on Saxton & Wootton at the top of the table as they hunt promotion to the Hellenic League. With Wootton playing Saxton on the same day 3 points were vital for the boys from the valley. Lambourn were playng into a strong wind in the opening half and this might of contributed to the slow start they made. Struggling to put the passes together on a bobbly pitch made the opening 15 minutes very scrappy. Lambourn finally started to get going and it was the away side who created the opening chance a clever pass from Mooney released Joyce but not for the first time this season the hard working striker failed to find the target. His work rate must soon start to be rewarded with goals. This sparked Lambourn into life & they started to move the ball much quicker. Fisher and Livings took control of the midfield battle and this allowed Langfrey & Goodey the space and freedom to attack the Drayton back line. Goodey went passed the Drayton right back with ease to create the opening goal, A driven low cross was struck first time by the on rushing Fisher from 8 yards into the bottom corner. Lambourn were two up seconds later as Joyce stole the ball straight from the kick off Mooney took up possession and a clever chip and well timed run allowed Livings the time and space in the box to slot home.
Lambourn were now looking a threat with every attack & it wasn't long before they increased the lead. Langfrey's deep cross was picked up on the left by top scorer Mooney and the gifted striker spotted the keeper off his line and scored his 11th goal of the season with a clever chip. Annetts in goal seemed like his biggest problem was keeping his cigar lit in the gale force head wind. Lambourn went in at half time
3-0 up and with the wind behind them in the second half it look like the job was almost done.
The second half started much the same as the first as Lambourn took their foot off the pedal and allowed Drayton to get some more possession without really troubling a back four being well marshalled by Rowbottom. However it was Drayton who would strike next as a neat passing move allowed the Drayton striker the space to hit an unstoppable strike past the diving Annetts. Lambourn were still not passing the ball as they did in the first half so the management decided to ring the changes. Connor's, M Hendren & Prior replaced Livings, Mooney & Griffin for the fianl half hour. It was Connor's who took the chance to shine the brighest of the replacements some great touches and non stop work rate were capped off with a fine solo goal, Collecting the ball on the left he twisted and turned away from 3 Drayton defenders before hitting a great strike. The young striker showing the first team management that he can make the step up from the res this season. The game was over as a contest & the final minutes played out that way. With the news that Saxton had taken away Wootton's unbeaten record the 3 points have made the title race now wide open.

Harwell game off.
Lambourn have lost top spot to Saxton after no fixture due to a frozen pitch. The club have received some good news with the signing of 3 new players Paul Davis has be joined at Bockhampton Road by Tommy Langfrey & Michael Cassey.
